Information on Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA)

- ICT service provider identification via Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) -

As part of DORA, the Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 on Digital Operational Resilience in the Financial Sector (Digital Operational Resilience Act), a Technical Implementation Standard was published, which prescribes a clear identification of ICT service providers for financial companies. With the LEI, ICT service providers can be clearly and consistently identified.

The identification of ICT service providers will become mandatory under DORA for certain legal entities on January 17, 2025, as affected companies must comply with the DORA requirements from this date.

You can download the current implementing regulation here.

Unique ICT service provider identification with the LEI!

ICT service providers can be clearly identified with the LEI, which is particularly helpful when implementing the DORA.

The following reasons speak in favor of using the LEI:

  • Global standardization
The LEI is an internationally recognized ISO standard (ISO 17442) that is used worldwide. This facilitates the identification of companies in global contexts, particularly in the financial and IT sectors, where international business relationships are common.
  • Unique identification
Unlike other codes, which may be limited to specific regions, the LEI provides a unique, globally valid identity for legal entities.
  • Transparency
The LEI is linked to a public register that contains information about the legal and organizational structure of the company. This improves transparency and reduces the risk of misidentification.
  • Avoidance of redundancies
Instead of using several codes for different purposes, the LEI can serve as a central identifier. This reduces administrative effort and ensures consistency.
