Future mapping of group structures in the global LEI system

21.12.2016: Starting in spring 2017, the LEI database will gradually be enriched with information on group links between the various LEI providers on behalf of the LEI-ROC and GLEIF. This means that the global LEI system will not only be able to answer the question "who is who in the financial market", but also "who belongs to whom".

The launch was preceded by a pilot phase lasting several months, in which the Bundesanzeiger Verlag and its LEI issuing organisation LEIReg were joined by four other LEI issuing organisations (from the USA, the UK, Saudi Arabia and Italy). During this pilot phase, methods and infrastructures were developed to collect, validate and finally integrate the relevant data into the LEI database.

The enrichment of the existing LEI database with group structure information is expected to be completed by 2018 at the latest. In addition, the workflows created in the pilot phase will be (further) developed so that all other LEI-issuing organisations will also be able to record the relationship networks between companies when issuing LEIs.

The global LEI system will come a step closer to its goal of creating more transparency in the financial markets and thus more security for all legal entities operating there, thanks to the new level of detail in the company data collected during LEI issuance.
